한국 덕분에 러시아 월드컵 16강에 진출하자 멕시코 축구팬들이 환호하며 현지 한국 대사관을 가득 메웠다.
28일(이하 한국 시각) 멕시코는 스웨덴과 2018 러시아 월드컵 F조 조별 예선 최종전에서 0 대 3으로 패배했지만 한국이 독일을 꺾어 16강에 진출했다.
미국 주간지 타임(Time)은 "수많은 멕시코 팬이 16강 진출에 도움을 준 한국에 감사를 표시했다. 멕시코 시티에 있는 주멕시코 한국 대사관에 모여 한국을 칭송했다"고 보도했다.
트위터에는 멕시코 팬들이 대사관 앞에서 "Gracias Korea(고마워요 한국)", "totdo somoso corea(우리 모두는 한국인)", "corea hermano ya eres mexicano(한국 형제들 당신들은 이미 멕시코 사람)"을 외치는 영상이 올라오고 있다.
한국 대사관은 몰려든 멕시코 팬들로 인해 업무가 마비될 정도라고 알려졌다.
