Adding to the excitement, actor Robert Pattinson, who stars as the titular Mickey, is set to visit South Korea on January 20. Despite his busy schedule shooting other projects, Pattinson reportedly insisted on visiting Bong’s home country to meet with local media and fans, highlighting his enthusiasm for the project.

Mickey 17 is a sci-fi story based on Edward Ashton’s novel Mickey 7. It follows Mickey (played by Robert Pattinson), an expendable worker assigned to colonize a frozen planet. When Mickey faces his 17th life-or-death situation and a replacement, Mickey 18, is printed, an unpredictable and gripping story unfolds.

Bong Joon-ho not only directed but also wrote the screenplay for the film, marking the first time he has single-handedly penned a script.

Mickey 17 is Bong’s first project since his 2019 masterpiece Parasite, which made history as the first Korean film to win the Palme d’Or at Cannes and the Academy Award for Best Picture. The new film has already generated immense buzz, with fans eager to see how Bong’s signature storytelling style translates into the realm of science fiction.

Korean audiences can look forward to being the first in the world to witness Bong’s latest cinematic vision on February 28.
