NewJeans member Hanni shared her heartfelt thoughts with fans after a tearful encounter with an overzealous fan left her shaken.
On December 29, Hanni took to the Instagram Stories of the group's independently-run account, 'jeanzforfree', to address the incident. Writing first in Korean, she reassured fans, saying, "I’m okay now! I’m so sorry for making you worry!! I really love the opportunities to meet Bunnies (NewJeans’ fandom Name), but I hope we can communicate without creating uncomfortable or dangerous situations for each other. Please don’t feel rushed!"
The incident occurred on December 28, when NewJeans returned to South Korea via Incheon International Airport after attending the 2024 Asia Artist Awards in Bangkok, Thailand. The chaotic scene quickly spiraled out of control as the crowd grew too large for the security team to manage.
During the commotion, a man pushed past security and thrust a piece of paper toward Hanni, startling her and leaving her visibly emotional and teary. Fellow member Minji was seen comforting Hanni, a moment that was captured and circulated across various online communities.
To further address the situation, Hanni posted an additional message in English, urging fans to prioritize safety: "The last thing I want is anyone getting hurt, and there were a few people that fell over and were pushed around today, including our staff and members. So if you do come to the airports, please be mindful!"
Despite the challenges, NewJeans continues to forge ahead independently amidst ongoing disputes with their former label, ADOR. On December 25, the group appeared on CBS Radio’s Kim Hyun-jung’s News Show and performed at the SBS 'Gayo Daejeon'. They are set to maintain their momentum with active schedules in the new year.
Hanni’s candid message and her call for safer interactions highlight the importance of mutual respect between idols and fans, reinforcing the need for mindful behavior in public spaces.
