Making his first appearance at SBS Gayo Daejeon in eight years, G-Dragon(GD) once again showcased his undeniable star power and reminded everyone why he’s considered the “idol of idols.”
On December 25, at the Inspire Arena in Incheon, G-Dragon closed the 2024 SBS Gayo Daejeon with a spectacular finale performance of his hit songs including 'POWER' and 'Crooked.'
During the event, G-Dragon was also honored as the No. 1 pick for "My Favorite Idol I Wish Could Be My Santa Claus." In his acceptance speech, he humbly remarked, “This is G-Dragon, chosen as the favorite idol at SBS Gayo Daejeon. At first, I thought it said ‘oldest idol,’ but it turns out it’s ‘favorite idol.’ I guess that means I’m still considered an idol. Thank you, everyone, I appreciate you all.”
Beyond his stage presence, G-Dragon made headlines for his generosity. Winning the "My Favorite Idol" vote at the event, ‘Gayo Daejeon’ promised to donate 100 million KRW (approximately 68,000 USD) to the Miral Welfare Foundation’s child welfare program under his name. On top of this, G-Dragon personally pledged an additional ₩100 million from his own funds for additional donation. His agency, Galaxy Corporation, further revealed that G-Dragon also contributed ₩100 million to the 'JusPeace Foundation', enhancing the warmth of the occasion with his charitable spirit.
While G-Dragon’s performance received tremendous cheers from fans and other performers, it also sparked some controversy due to the stage's closing sequence. During the final moments of his act, other performers began appearing on stage before his performance had fully concluded, creating a somewhat chaotic atmosphere. G-Dragon, who had planned to lie center stage and look into the camera for the finale, remained professional despite the unexpected interruptions, graciously greeting fans and his fellow performers.
Despite the missteps in stage direction, G-Dragon’s class and professionalism left a lasting impression, solidifying his reputation as a true legend in the K-pop industry.
