Jo Yu-ri shared the behind-the-scenes story of joining Netflix's 'Squid Game' Season 2, revealing how she landed her role.
Appearing on the web content series Want Some Ramen? on the Idolverse channel on December 20, Jo showcased her playful chemistry with fellow guest Lee Dae-hwi. During the broadcast, she opened up about the casting process for Squid Game Season 2.
Jo explained, “I received an audition offer through my company. After completing the first audition, I heard back about two months later that I had passed. Then I went through the second, third, and fourth auditions. I was recording an OST when I got the news that I’d been cast, and I couldn’t hold back my tears at that moment.”
Reflecting on her success, she said, “It was as sweet as the effort I put into it.”
In Squid Game Season 2, Jo will play the role of Jun-hee, a character who joins the deadly game after being misled by faulty investment information.
News of Jo Yu-ri’s casting has garnered significant attention, not only from K-drama enthusiasts worldwide but also from K-pop fans eager to see her acting debut in such a high-profile project.
Jo also shared how she developed her passion for acting. “In high school, I joined the drama club because I wanted to get closer to actor Yoon Ga-i after seeing her perform. What started as simple curiosity turned into something I genuinely enjoyed, which led me to dream of acting.”
Alongside her acting pursuits, Jo continues to engage in her music career. Recently, she gained attention for singing the OST Spring Days Are Gone for the drama Jeong Nyeoni.
When asked about future acting challenges, Jo expressed her interest in action roles. “Action is a genre I really enjoy, and I’d love to play unpredictable characters. I hope to show a wide range of acting through diverse projects,” she shared with determination.
