One of the most highly anticipated Korean dramas of the year, Disney+’s original series 'Light Shop', has finally premiered—and it’s already creating a buzz for its spine-chilling suspense and jaw-dropping twists.
The series, penned by renowned webtoon artist Kang Full and directed by acclaimed actor-turned-director Kim Hee-won, debuted on December 4 with its first four episodes.
'Light Shop' is set in a mysterious store at the end of a dark alley, where strange and secretive customers arrive with hidden stories. The series takes viewers into the eerie yet emotional tales of life and death, love and loss, with an ensemble cast including Ju Ji-hoon, Park Bo-young, Kim Seol-hyun, Uhm Tae-goo, and Lee Jung-eun.
From the very first episodes, the series sets a gripping tone, introducing viewers to Won-young (Joo Ji-hoon), the enigmatic shop owner, alongside fascinating characters like Young-ji (Park Bo-young), Hyun-min (Uhm Tae-goo), Sun-hae (Kim Min-ha), and Hyun-joo (Shin Eun-soo). Each is drawn into unsettling events that intensify the tension with every scene. Fans are already raving about the dramatic twists, calling Episode 4 "a total mind-blower."
One standout moment comes in Episode 4, where Young-ji finds herself trapped in a sealed elevator with an ominous man, Seung-won (Park Hyuk-kwon). As he begins to pour water endlessly from his body, the suffocating tension leaves both Young-ji and viewers on edge. The eerie, unsettling contrast between the terrified Young-ji and the enigmatic Seung-won has fans speculating about the true nature of the story’s horrors.
Fans describe the series as terrifying yet surprisingly emotional. Many shared how the story’s depth caught them off guard, with comments like, “At first, I thought it was just scary, but it turned out to be deeply touching,” and, “It’s not your typical horror—it has so much more to offer.” Others admitted they couldn’t watch alone, saying, “I couldn’t sleep after watching this,” or, “Don’t even think about watching this in the dark!”
'Light Shop' is based on one of Kang Full’s most terrifying webtoons, known for its psychological depth and chilling narrative, rivaling his earlier work 'Apartment'. At a press conference, Kang Full described the show as "a blend of horror, thriller, and romance" and promised a more emotionally profound experience compared to his previous super-powered hit 'Moving'.
Currently, Episodes 1–4 of 'Light Shop' are available on Disney+, with two episodes dropping every Thursday until the full eight-episode run concludes on December 18. If you’re looking for an intense, uniquely Korean take on the horror-thriller genre, this is a must-watch. Just make sure you don’t watch it alone… or in the dark.
