The Melon Music Awards (MMA) concluded successfully on November 30 at the Inspire Arena in Incheon. Aespa, winning a total of six awards across 28 categories, including three grand prizes, solidified their dominance in the music charts this year. Meanwhile, (G)I-DLE, whose future had been uncertain due to recent contract renewal discussions surrounding member Jeon Soyeon, announced during their acceptance speech that all members have agreed to extend their contracts, sharing exciting news with fans.
Following last year’s opening performance by the band Silica Gel, this year’s Melon Music Awards (MMA) also began with a band. QWER kicked off the show with their renditions of My Name is Clear and Addicted to Worry.
The event alternated between award presentations and performances, featuring acts in the following order: tripleS, Lee Young-ji, Christopher, Flav, BIBI, TOUS, BOYNEXTDOOR, YOASOBI, RIIZE, ATEEZ, IVE, (G)I-DLE, and aespa.
Notably, Lee Young-ji and Christopher performed their duet song Trouble together. At the 2024 MMA, Danish singer-songwriter Christopher and Japanese duo YOASOBI were invited as international artists, delivering standout performances on stage.
In their 7th year as a group, (G)I-DLE delivered a memorable stage performance, showcasing individual parts of their most popular songs, followed by a powerful rendition of 나는 아픈 건 딱 질색이니까 (Fate). The performance was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience. Notably, amid rumors of disbandment due to the renewal period of member Jeon Soyeon’s contract, (G)I-DLE addressed the speculation during their acceptance speech for one of the grand prizes, "Record of the Year." Through leader Jeon Soyeon, the group shared the surprising news that all members have agreed to renew their contracts, delighting fans with the announcement.
The star of the 2024 Melon Music Awards (MMA) was Aespa. Winning a total of six awards, three of which were grand prizes, Aespa took home Song of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Album of the Year. Winter, accepting the Album of the Year award for their first full-length album Armagetton, expressed her gratitude, saying, "I’ll remember 2024 forever." Ningning added that the group is preparing for an international tour and a new album next year, urging fans to continue their support.
With the conclusion of the Album of the Year award, all presentations came to an end. The attending artists collectively took to the stage to thank the audience, marking the successful close of the 2024 MMA.
